Early buyers should have discount when buying software

May 4th, 2009

I believe that early buyers should have a discount when Microsoft releases a new operating system. If you have followed the media lately you will be aware that Microsoft is about to launch window 7. Windows 7 is the long-awaited replacement to Windows Vista.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of working with Windows Vista I strongly recommend that you do not even consider moving away from your Windows XP. Windows Vista has a nice user interface but aside from that is a major pain to work with. Every week or so (it feels almost like everyday) the system downloads new service packs and updates everything on the computer. It feels like the entire operating system is being changed. Downloading a service pack and updating is it okay if the subsequent installation – which drives me up the wall – would be more smooth and painless. The problem is that the installation locks the computer for 10, 15 or 20 minutes while checking this and that and updating etc. During that time it is almost impossible to use the computer.   Forget using Skype, the person in the other end will not understand a word of what you say.

If you don’t update every week as prescribed by Microsoft you run the risk of getting all kind of viruses and malware and if update overnight you have to leave your notebook on 24/7.

I think that as a consultation to all of us who either voluntarily or forced (for instance when we buy a new notebook computer) have to use an operating system which has been on the market for less than two years should have a 50% discount on the operating system and the system should come with Microsoft Office small business edition for free.

The solution is simple:

50% discount to everyone buying Windows 7 within 2 years of release as well as a free Microsoft Office small business edition!

I am still dreaming :-)
